FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do we have a Gala & Auction?
Money raised from both segments of the 20 in 2020 Gala & Auction will bridge the intentional gap between the cost of educating a child at our school and actual tuition fees. In keeping tuition fees low, we can help to make a Canyon Heights Academy education available to as many children and families as possible! Fundraising proceeds also go towards balancing the budget at the end of the year.

What is the 20 in 2020 Gala & Auction?
This year, the 20 in 2020 Gala & Auction will be in two segments: the Virtual Gala at the end of May and an in-person Gala, scheduled for September 18, at the Westin San Jose.

The Virtual Gala in May is a combination event including an online auction, a raffle, a Virtual Live Auction, and the CHA Trivia Game. All guests can participate in this event from the comfort of their own home.

The in-person Gala in September is our “traditional” Gala held at the Westin San Jose and will include Live and Online Auctions, CHAmpagne cocktail, sit-down dinner, dancing and lots of fellowship.

What is included in the Virtual Gala?
The online auction in May includes this year’s Class Gifts, Faculty and Staff Gifts, and any Sign-Up Parties that need sign-ups complete prior to the September 18 in-person Gala. You can also win two fabulous raffle items (good luck!) and bid online at the Virtual Live Auction on Saturday, May 30.

What do I need to do in order to participate?
To participate in the Virtual Gala, REGISTRATION is REQUIRED.

Registration opens on May 19, when you should receive an email with a link to this website and the online bidding preview.
To register, purchase a FREE Virtual Admission Ticket to the event on the Tickets/Purchases page (one per household).  Feel free to encourage friends and family to register as well!

On May 26, check-in begins at 7pm. Once your household is checked in, you will be emailed a personal link to begin bidding and complete sign-ups! (Please do not forward the personal link as it is specific to your household.) Class Gifts, Faculty and Staff Gifts, and Sign-Up Parties will close at 7pm on May 30.

What is the CHA Trivia Game?
The CHA Trivia Game will be played during the Virtual Live Auction on Saturday, May 30. The Virtual Gala is brought to you by the power of technology, but it cannot happen simultaneously in all locations. Therefore, between the bidding on the Virtual Live Auction items and the announcement of the bidding winners, the CHA Trivia Game will be emailed to all registered guests (in the form of a Google Doc). After answers for the CHA Trivia Game are submitted, the Virtual Live Auction concludes with the announcement of bidding winners and raffle prize winners.

What if I cannot attend the livestream on May 30th?
You can still bid! But, it will be tricky. Bidding during the livestream occurs on your phone. Bidding for all Virtual Live Auction items will open at 7pm on Saturday, May 30, and the auctioneer directs the bidding at 8pm to the end. You can bid without benefit of the livestream; however, your timing may be off from the group. The recommendation would be to enter to your max bid and see if that does the trick!

What technological set-up do I need to participate?
The Virtual Live Auction requires 2 devices (any combination of smart phone, tablet, or laptop). Bidding occurs on the phone, and you can watch the event from the second device. Further information will follow once the streaming platform is decided.

What should I wear to the Virtual Live Auction?
Your outfit should be comfortable! Footwear could include slippers or stilettos!
